Gauss Math Contest: Complete Overview and Preparation Guide

The Gauss Mathematics Contest, organized by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo, is one of Canada's most popular mathematics competitions for middle school students. The contest encourages students to develop strong problem-solving skills, mathematical creativity, and logical reasoning.

Eligibility

• Gauss 7: Grade 7 and below

• Gauss 8: Grade 8 and below
  Students may participate in only one level each year.
   

Contest Format

• 25 multiple-choice questions

• 60 minutes

• Total Score: 150 points

Part A (Questions 1–10)

• 5 points each

Awards

• Students receive an official score report from the University of Waterloo.

• Certificate of Distinction Awarded to students who place in the top 25% of participants in their schools.
