Pascal Math Contest: Complete Overview and Preparation Guide

The Pascal Mathematics Contest, organized by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo, is one of Canada's premier mathematics competitions for Grade 9 students. The contest encourages students to strengthen their mathematical foundations while developing advanced problem-solving, logical reasoning, and analytical thinking skills.

Contest Format

  • 25 questions

  • 60 minutes

  • Total Score: 150 points
     

Question Breakdown
Part A (Questions 1–10)

  • 5 marks each

Part B (Questions 11–20)

  • 6 marks each

Part C (Questions 21–25)

  • 8 marks each
     

Awards

  • Students receive an official score report from the University of Waterloo.

  • Certificate of Distinction Awarded to students who place in the top 25% of participants .

  • High-performing students may also receive school, regional, or national recognition.
